How do you thin Iceberg lettuce? The package says to thin when they are 1"to 2" high. How many do you leave in the ground? |
You can begin thinning the plants by pulling out or cutting the tops off of seedlings that are closer to one another than about 3 inches. As the seedlings grow more, you can remove and eat - or transplant to another area of the garden bed - any plants that are within six inches of one another. The idea is to give each plant enough elbow room to grow to its full potential, and eliminate any competition for water and nutrients by the root systems of each plant. |
