Can you stake up cucumbers as you do with tomato plants? |
I suppose you could, and I know that greenhouse varieties are trellised quite strictly to manage space. If you are struggling with a space problem, try a trellis rather than stakes. Place a few stakes in a row and attach netting, chicken wire or other mesh material to the stakes, and train the cuke vines to it. Their vines are more fragile than tomato vines, so they can't stand as much handling. If you want to look into purchasing pre-made trellis kits, check out the Gardener's Supply Co. website for their offerings (www.gardeners.com). Enjoy! |
