| Most poppy flowers will develop a seedhead if you leave the flower alone. If you want to collect seeds, just wait for the top of the seed head to open (you'll see little holes around the rim of the seedpod. The pod will turn a tannish color. At that time you can cut the seedpod from the plant and collect the seeds in a paper envelope or plastic baggie. You can plant the seeds next spring. Or, you can simply cut the seedpod off the plant and shake it all over your garden. Each seed should develop into a new poppy plants. It doesn't seem to matter to poppies whether or not your remove the spent flowers so it isn't necessary to do so to promote new flowers. Poppies just seem to like to produce new flowers. Enjoy. |
