I want to plant a drought-tolerant shrub or tree that will shade windows of early morning sun, yet not grow taller than 8-10 feet and end up shading solar panels on roof. Fast growing is good.

Some shrubs that come to mind include Cassia, Bottlebrush, Hibiscus and Texas Sage. A tree to consider is purple leaf plum. It grows about 10' tall and remains upright and evergreen. Best wishes with your landscape.
