The petunias I bought are long and leggy. Would it be OK to bury some of the stem like you can with tomatoes or should the plant be set with the root ball at ground level as is usually recommended with most plants? |
Plant your petunias at the proper level and just pinch the leggy stems off. New leaves and stems will grow. If you bury the stems, they'll decay, which might compromise the health of the rest of the plant. When you pinch off faded petunia blooms, take some of the stem, too, to help keep them compact and to encourage development of new stems, leaves, and flower buds. |
