We are preparing to remodel & we need to move a 50 year old Lacy Leaf Maple. It is currently very near the house in rockery.

This might be a job for a certified arborist. I have no idea how deep the rootmass might be or how far out it extends. An arborist will have the equipment to explore the soil without harming the root system and will also have the equipment necessary to remove the tree, rootmass and all with little to no trauma to the maple. Good luck with the move!
