The Q&A Archives: Source for Vidalia Onions

Question: I live in suburban Philadelphia, PA Can I grow Vidalia onions in this region? If so, will they be like the ones from Georgia? Again, if the answer is "yes", can you supply the seeds or shoots? R. P. Ornsteen Gladwyne, PA

Answer: A.You can try to grow Vidalia onion in Philadelphia area, but they won't be like the ones you get from Georgia. You'll have to start them in the early spring (as opposed to the fall in the South), and they won't get as big or as sweet, but will still be a nice onion. A good source of onion plants is, Piedmont Plant Farm P.O. Box 424 Albany, GA 31702 912-883-7029
