The Q&A Archives: split leaf red maple

Question: last year my japanese split leaf red maple was very full....this year, not as full, can see through it.....what is problem and what can i do? thank you

Answer: A late cold snap can damage some leaf buds so perhaps that's what happened to your tree. Or, as the branches grow (elongate) the leaves will be spaced farther away from one another. As long as the growth looks healthy, I don't think there is anything wrong with your tree. Keep watching it, though, just in case. Best wishes with your tree!
