I would install a variety of plants with different bloom seasons so you always have something in bloom throughout the growing season. Some perennials to consider include:
Aster (Aster species) grow 12"-24" in various colors, from June-Oct.
Columbine (Aquilegia species) grow 12"-24" bloom in various colors from May-July. Delphinium (Delphinium hybrids) 18"-48", Various colors from June-Sept.
Bleedingheart (Dicentra spectabilis) 24"-36" pink or Red in May-June.
Leopardbane (Doronium species) 24" Yellow flowers, April-June.
Blue mist flower (Eupatorium coelstinum), 12"-24", Blue, Aug-Oct.
Coral bell (Heuchera sanguinea), 12"-24", Crimson, June-Sept.
Japanese iris (Iris Kaempferi), 24"-36", Red, Purple, July.
Blue flax (Linum perenne), 18", Blue, June-Aug.
Oriental poppy (Papaver Orientalis), 36", Red, Orange June.
Garden phlox (Phlox paniculata), 24"-48", Various colors, July-Aug.
Painted daisy (Pyrethrum )12"-24" ,Various, June-July .
Poker plant (Tritoma species) 24"-36", Red, Yellow, Aug-Sept.
