The Q&A Archives: Why Is My Blue Spruce Green?

Question: Why is my blue spruce green and how do I correct this situation? Deanna Robbins Baltimore, MD

Answer: It sounds like a "Why is the sky blue?" question! Seriously, there is a natural genetic variation in the color of blue spruce. Some appear bluer than others and you should be careful when selecting ones from the nursery. Don't believe them when they say it'll turn blue. It probably won't! Otherwise, keep them healthy with water, slightly acid pH and Miracid type fertilizer applied annually in spring.
