Cat palms (Chamaedorea cataractarum) need lots of bright, but mostly indirect light. If you can provide that on your patio, you can grow them outdoors. The plants tend to sucker and you should be able to divide it by slicing directly down and through the root mass so that each division has both roots and tops. Best wishes with your palnts.
