I am trying to locate seeds for a plant I found at a University garden. This plant was identified as Black Pod Shoo-fly. It gets 4 feet tall on a big hollow stalk. Large leaves and a purple/blue cup flower the size of a 50 cent piece. When the flower turns to a seed pod it looks like a oriental lantern with the tint of black. This is not the same as the oriental lantern that's orange. Can you help? I sure would like to find some more seed. |
Based upon your description, the plant is probably 'Apple-of-Peru' or 'Shoo-Fly Plant'. The botanical name is Nicandra physalodes. Seeds for this plant are available from Johnny's Selected Seeds, Foss Hill Rd., Albion, Maine 04910-9731. Phone (207) 437-4301. |
