| I would like to plant some type of flower with lots of color and decor in these large, deep flower pots that I purchased this year. I love the flower pots that has the spiked up flowers in the middle and beautiful assorted flowers around the spikes that hang outside of the large flower pots. How do I get that look? |
| Here are some choices: Portulaca (excellent for drought tolerance), Alyssum, Ageratum, Convolvulus, Dusty Miller, Geranium, Heliotrope (smells heavenly), Lobelia, Verbena, Nasturtium, Pentas, Petunia, Phlox, Scaevola, and Helichrysum (looks spectacular with Verbena and/or Heliotrope). Tall, spikey plants include ornamental grasses and Liatrus. There are lots more, so just cruise your garden center for more ideas. Remember, the most important factor in having beautiful cascading plants in planter boxes or hanging baskets is staying on top of watering. During the hottest days of summer you may need to water more than once a day. Containers dry out very quickly. |
