The Q&A Archives: Eggplant insects

Question: I planted eggplants a few eeks ago and I notved little black bugs on the leaves. Waht are they and do I need to treat? If so, what do I treat with? Thank you

Answer: The little black bugs may not be harmful at all. Aphids and fungus gnats are common, as are flea beetles. You can hose the aphids off and deter fungus gnats by using a mulch over the soil. As long as the insects are not causing problems, just hosing them off should suffice. A neem oil spray can control flea beetles. Best wishes with your eggplants!
