The Q&A Archives: Removing Row Cover

Question: We covered our pole bean seeds with a floating row cover to prevent birds from taking the seedlings. At what height of bean plant is it safe to remove the row cover?

Answer: Birds are only interested in the seeds, not the plants, so once the seedlings have sprouted and grown to five or six inches high, you can remove the row cover.
