How frequently should I fertilize my tomato plants? I planted 8 Rutgers and 2 Orange Oxheart. When I planted them I mixed some bone meal and 3-5-6 fertilizer in the soil to start.

I like to fertilize my tomato plants about every 2 weeks with a dilute fertilizer solution. Early in the season, I use a soluble fertilizer such as Miracle-Gro, to get them off to a good start. Then I switch to a combination fish emulsion/kelp mix for the rest of the season. Whatever you use, just follow label directions carefully. If you apply too concentrated a solution of some soluble fertilizers, you can damage plant roots.
