The Q&A Archives: Rhododendron

Question: The leaves on my Rhododendron are falling off. Can you tell me why and the cure.

Answer: As evergreens, rhododendrons eventually drop their oldest leaves so as long as your rhodie is putting out healthy new growth, the leaf drop should not cause alarm. If both the old and the new foliage is dropping, I'd guess it was a water stress. Be sure to water your rhodie deeply to encourage deep root growth. Once a week, twice a week when the weather is really hot should be sufficient. Good luck with your rhododendron!
