| Spring or fall are the best times to move plants. That's when the weather is cooler and rainfall abundant. You can move them now in early summer but you'll need to pay special attention to their watering needs while they are re-establishing their root systems. You can prune both your plants back a little before moving if that will make them easier to dig and transplant. Dig the new holes first, then dig up each plant and replant immediately, making sure each will be at the same soil level as it was growing before. Most of the roots will be concentrated directly below and in the top 12-18 inches of soil so start digging at the outside of the branch tips and dig down and toward the center of the plant, trying not to sever too many roots. After replanting, water deeply to help settle the soil. Best wishes with the move~ |
