I purchased 5 basil plants from the same nursery. Two are in the kitchen window, the rest outside. The ones inside have lots of tiny black insects on them (they look like ground black pepper) that are eating the leaves completely. What are these bugs and how do I control them? Thanks. The outside ones are fine

There are several insects that prefer the dry conditions of indoors so it's difficult to identify what might be attacking your basil. I'd take the plants outdoors and hose them off well, directing the water at both upper and under leaf surfaces, plus stems and even the top of the soil. That should dislodge the critters, or drown any that are on the soil.
