The Q&A Archives: Worms in my canna lillies

Question: They are just barely out of the ground and the leaves are still curled. The leaves are full of what looks like black eggs and soon whatever it is will start devowering the leaves. It doesn't kill them off, but is there some way to treat this and keep them more healthy.

Answer: What look like clusters of black eggs may very well be black aphids. If so, sprays of Insecticidal Soap (Safer's or other brands) will kill them on contact. Or, if they really are eggs, you can hose them out of the leaves with a strong stream of water. Just gently unfurl the leaves and direct the stream of water inside. Good luck with your cannas!
