Butterfly bushes are often cut down to almost ground level in the early spring to make room for the new growth. If you did not prune yours down you may be seeing last years' old growth rather than new growth that is dying. Prune out the dead stems and branches and wait for new growth. It should emerge in a few short weeks. In the meantime, water our butterfly bush deeply once or twice a week to keep the roots hydrated. Best wishes with your butterfly bush!
