The Q&A Archives: pruning citrus plants

Question: My myer lemon plants have fruit beginning to develop but have been in same pots for approx. 3-4 yrs when is best time to repot & prune? I also have a key lime & navel orange plant but now unsure which is which but one has long thorns on stems. Any advice/ help appreciated!!

Answer: The orange tree has the spiny thorns. Wait until you harvest the fruit on your Meyer lemon tree and then repot and prune it back. Late fall or early winter is a good time to repot and prune all of your citrus trees. That will give them several months to re-establish themselves before flowering and setting new fruit. Enjoy!
