The Q&A Archives: Starting Fruit Trees from seeds

Question: I collected some seeds from a gala apple, I would like to plant them and see if I get a seedling. Am I wasting my time or recycling properly?

Answer: Your seeds will grow into apple trees, but not into Gala apples. The apples were cross pollinated and their seeds will result in a combination of the two parents. It might be fun to plant them and watch them grow, but don't expect them to produce fruit.
