| My petunias for the past couple of years have developed yellow leaves shortly after planting. I have fertilized and watered adequately. What would cause this? |
| Yellowing leaves is an indication that the plants are not getting the nutrients they require. This may be due to soil pH. Check yours to make sure it's in the neutral range (6.0 - 7.0). It's always a good idea to amend soil with organic matter before planting. If you use compost, aged manure, leaf mold or peat moss, the organic matter will release some nutrients as it decomposes, giving the roots of your plants a ready source of food. Organic matter will loosen the soil for good root penetration, and help retain moisture, both conducive to healthy plants. |
