If you want to cut flowers to take indoors, choose roses just as they begin to show color between the sepals, and lilies before the buds open, but just as they start to split at the sepals. Daylilies can be a challenge. You can cut the entire flowering stem off the plant and set the stem in a vase of water. Each flower will open for only one day and the spent flowers should be snapped off early the next morning. Best wishes with your flowers.
