Can I start lemon, orange or grapefruit tress by planting seeds? Or would it be best if I purchased seedling trees?

Although it is theoretically possible to start citrus trees from seed, they are usually purchased as young trees. This will ensure that you grow a desirable variety, either for its ornamental value or its fruit crop. In fact, since many of the trees are actually grafted plants there is very little chance you could obtain them from seed. All in all, I think you would be happier with purchased trees.
