| Trumpet vines do best when planted against a south or south-west facing wall because they thrive on sun and heat. Since they flower on the current year's growth, it helps to prune them in the early spring to encourage lots of new shoots. Cut back all year-old shoots to within 2 or 3 inches of their bases and remove any thin and straggly shoots. A spring application of a 5-10-10 or a 10-10-10 fertilizer will also encourage flowering.
