Our flowering pear sits in an area where it receives much water, especially due to all the rain. Its leaves are beginning to curl and change from green to red and orange. Is there any way to save it? We have cleared around the base of the tree already.

The symptoms you describe may be due insect or disease rather than too much water. For a positive identification of the problem, take a sample to your local Cooperative Extension office: 2604 Ventura Ave., Rm 100, Santa Rosa 95403. Phone (707) 527-2621. If you act quickly, you may be able to save your tree.
