The Q&A Archives: Iris and Amaryllis

Question: I have some iris and amaryllis planted in the same bed for at least 2 years. Neither one has ever bloomed. What is wrong? They are in full sun and well drained soil.

Answer: About the only reason for non-blooming is that the plants are overcrowded and competing for moisture and nutrient. I'd dig and divide the irises. After digging amend the soil with some organic matter and then replant, giving all the plants 3-4 inches of space between one another. Enjoy your garden!
