I have several small boxwoods that face east and were very brown on top (burnt looking) in early Spring. Their counterparts that face north are green and beautiful, making me think boxwoods do not like direct morning sun. Anyway, I trimmed off the brown on 5/9/09 exposing some of the inside of the bush (also brown'ish), but still no new growth. Will they recover? Thanks, Nancy (Portland, OR) |
They should recover, just give them a little more time. Boxwoods are quite adaptable and will grow in full sunshine. Those facing east probably suffered winter damage - dessicating winds, frost, etc. where those on the north side were more protected. Cutting off the dead foliage was a good first step. Now they need to recover before they can resume growing. Best wishes with your shrubs. |
