You can make your new flower bed as narrow or as wide as you want. Dig out all the grass and then place a barrier along the edge of the bed where it meets the grass. This will keep the grass from creeping into the flower bed. There are plastic, wooden and metal barriers available, or you can line the bed with a row of bricks half buried into the soil. Once you have the grass barrier in place, spread a few inches of compost over the new bed and dig it in to a depth of about 8 inches. Level the soil and plant your new flowers. Enjoy your new flower bed!
