The Q&A Archives: Baby Carrots

Question: Are baby carrots hybrids or are they regular carrots that have been plucked before maturity? This is a question that has been circulating around the office and we'd like to put an end to the speculation. Thanks! Cheryl

Answer: Baby carrots are especially bred to have full flavor when small. As opposed to regular carrots that are picked young, but haven't developed their full flavor. They also tend to be hybrids because that's where the breeding efforts have gone, but they don't necessarily have to be hybrids to be baby carrots. Confused??
