My corn is not even close to being ready and something is gnawing through the stalks and then dragging the stalks up on our deck. What animal would do this and how can I stop this?

Mountain beaver or raccoons are the two most likely suspects. About the only control is a fence around your corn stalks. Use a 2' tall chicken wire or hardware cloth fence, burying it 6" into the soil all around your corn patch. Best wishes with your corn!
