One isn't suppose to plant cucumbers near pumpkins, watermelons, or cantalopes?

You can plant cucumbers, pumpkins, watermelon and cantaloupes in the same garden without any of them affecting the other. All the fruits will develop normally and taste just right. The caution comes with saving seeds from the mature fruit. If you save seeds and plant them next year you will end up with some very odd crops because of cross pollination. As long as you don't save the seeds to plant next year, all your plants will be just fine.
