The Q&A Archives: shady area under trees

Question: I have planted lots of trees, but the area under them with the shade, nothing grows, I don't want grass which will require too much care and H2O, what ground cover, etc can you suggest that will take some traffic. we want to place a table and chairs there...thank you, Polly

Answer: I would consider planting dwarf ruellia - either Katy or Blue Shade. Katy grows only 4-6" high; Blue Shade about 12" high. Either are carefree plants and both will take some foot traffic. Good luck with your garden!
