my broccoli plants started to get heads and now the heads are flowering do i cut these off and if so how do i remove them without injuring the plants?

Your broccoli should be harvested before they set flowers and go to seed. Cut off the flowering stalks and then harvest the broccoli on that plant, leaving a 5-6" length of stem attached to the plant. With any luck you will get two more little broccoli florets before the plants die. Broccoli should be harvested when the buds are fully closed and before the small leaves begin to turn yellow.
