I recently purchased a gardenia and want to know what the best fertilizer is for flowering shrubs. I live in Tucson, Arizona and it's the summertime and well, it gets hot! The plant is on the patio in the shade and away from the heat. Any suggestions?

Your gardenia will bloom best if it gets 4 hours of morning sunshine so move it somewhere on your patio where it will get some morning sun. Gardenias will actually grow in the ground in Tucson, as long as they are protected somewhat by hot afternoon sunshine. You can feed every 2-3 weeks with a half strength dilution of an acidified water soluable fertilizer such as Miracle Gro. Best wishes with your gardenia!
