I got rid of an above ground pool and am now left with a 20 some foot diameter circle of about an inch of sand. What is the best advice to grow grass on this circle? Sod or seed? Is the sand a problem?

The sand can cause some problems down the road so I'd suggest incorporating some topsoil and/or compost over the sand to help it hold moisture and nutrients. Since it is a rather large area you might consider renting a rototiller to incorporate the topsoil and/or compost. After you've properly prepared the soil and leveled it, you can overseed or lay sod. The advantage of sod is that it has an established root system and is already thick and lush so it will root readily and be less affected by weeds. Best wishes with your turf.
