Is there something to put in my flower beds to get rid of slugs? I have tried bug-getta, but it doesn't seem to be very effective.I prefer something less toxic.

You can try one of several techniques: gather them a night when they're feeding, place a barrier of crushed eggshells, Diatomaceous Earth, or copper stripping around the bed, or trap them. You can make a simple trap out of a cottage cheese or margarine tub by cutting slots one inch wide and an inch and a half long on three sides of the tub, filling with beer, replacing the lid, and sinking the trap into the ground up to the slots you've cut. Slugs will be attracted to the odor of the beer, crawl in and drown. Empty the trap every few days and refill with fresh beer. Slugs like to hide under leaves and garden debris during the day, so be sure to remove rocks, boards, old foliage, etc. from the garden to eliminate hiding places.
