how do i get tomato plants in an enclosed porch to pollenate; is a little breeze through the screens good enough, or do i need them exposed to insects,... and is there a way to do it myself? |
You can sharply tap each branch when the flowers are open to dislodge the pollen so it falls on the female part of the flower. Or, you can visit each open flower with a small brush (artist's camelhair is what I use). Either way, when the pollen is ripe it will successfully pollinate the flower and result in fruit. You might try both methods on different plants to see which works best for you. Enjoy the fruits of your labor! |
