Is there a product I can use to create a better lawn that will not harm my puppy - a Golden Retriever who chews on everything.

Weed killers vary in toxicity but the most important factor is how much you use and how long you allow after spraying before letting pets and people onto the lawn. That said, the safest herbicide is corn gluten meal, but it acts to prevent weed seeds from germinating, not to kill existing weeds. I suggest either hand pulling current weeds or mowing and ignoring them. Focus on proper mowing, watering and fertilizing to build a dense lawn which will choke out the weed problems over time. Liquid fertilizers are probably better to use than granular fertilizers, at least until your puppy stops chewing on the turf. Liquids are absorbed into the leaf blades and transported down to the roots of the grass so you won't have to worry about your pup licking up a mouthful of time release granules. Hope this information is helpful.
