The Q&A Archives: Is Composted Manure Still "Hot"?

Question: My question is about commercial composted steer manure. Is it still considered "Hot" when it is purchased this way? If so how much can I use it in my flower bed? If not can I use it liberally as a soil amendment ? Thanks for your help in clearing thisup for me. Chrystal Garcia El Paso, TX

Answer: Once a manure is composted, it is no longer considered "hot" and can be safely added to soil. Within reason, you can feel free to add as much as you like. Ten to twenty pounds of dried manure per 100 square feet of garden should be plenty.
