The Q&A Archives: soda cans

Question: i have heard if you put soda cans in a pot of soil and plant your seeds that they root alot better in the cans is this true

Answer: I don't think it's true. Plant roots need lots of room for root growth but they also need the soil to drain quickly. Planting in soda cans, unless you remove the bottoms of the cans so excess water can drain out, won't really improve the growth of your seedlings. I'd forget the soda cans and just plant the seeds in containers of potting soil, or directly in the garden soil.
