If you water frequently you encourage the roots to remain close to the surface, where they will be more prone to drying out unless they are watered daily. So, it will take some time but you'll need to wean it off of daily watering by forcing deep root growth. Do this by watering for a longer period of time so the water percolates down and wets the soil 6-8 inches. Wait 3-4 days and water deeply again. Eventually you will force the roots to go deep to get water and your lawn will remain much greener. After a few months you will be able to water deeply only once each week to keep your St. Augustine green. Best wishes with your lawn.
