The Q&A Archives: Deadheading Astible

Question: The flower stalks on my astible are finished blooming. Should I cut them off or leave them. They never seem to bloom again.

Answer: Astilbes bloom only once and you can prune off the spent plumes when they lose their color. Leave the rest of the foliage alone, though. It is busy supplying the root system with food. Best wishes with your garden.
