| When you deadhead petunias, pinch off the spent flower along with some of the stem. The purpose of deadheading is to keep the plant from developing seeds. If you do this regularly, your plant will continue to grow and flower. If you allow the spent flowers to develop seeds, the plant will use its energy to make seeds instead of new flowers. Pinching off the stem will encourage your petunia to produce two new stems where there once was only one, and each new stem will develop a flower. Regularly pinching the stems and spent flowers will result in a dense and bushy plant with lots of blooms. Enjoy! |
