| I have a big pot of geraniums and they bloomed beautifully, but now need to be cleaned up. How do I do that? Thanks from dummy. |
| If you regularly pinch out the growing tips, your geranium won't get leggy and sparse and it will continue to bloom all summer long. If you haven't pinched the plant back you can still revive it. Just cut the stems down to a suitable level. New growth will develop at the leaf scars along the remaining stems. You can also root the cuttings and you'll have lots of new geraniums plants. Cut off a long stem and then cut it into small pieces, each with a leaf scar or leaf node. Allow the cuttings to air dry for several hours and then lay them leaf node up in a container filled with sand or potting soil. Cover over most of the cutting with sand or potting soil, leaving the node exposed. Roots will form on the underside of the cutting and new growth will emerge from the leaf node. When this happens you can repot your new geranium. You can also root the top of the cutting. Remove most of the lower leaves and just pop it into a glass of water. It will develop roots and then you can plant it in a container or in the ground. Best wishes with your geraniums! |
