is there a humane way to deter my animals from lying/digging/pooping in my flower beds..they love it but i do not..i scold for all the good that does..i'm a softie but it makes me angry to see all my hard work ruined

You might try strewing thorny branches on the ground throughout the bed or at least on the perimeter, you might try covering the soil surface between the plants with a wire mesh such as chicken wire, or you might try using a larger mulch such as nuggets that would be less attractive animals. I've had good luck pounding stakes into the ground and criss-crossing nylon fishing line between the stakes, keeping the line about 6" above the soil level and crossing every 8 inches or so. Animals are afraid they will get their legs caught so they generally avoid the area. Hope this works for you!
