The Q&A Archives: when to prune a "smoke bush"

Question: what is a good time to prune my smoke bush?

Answer: Smoke bush (Cotinus coggygria) can be pruned down to about 5" above ground level to completely renew it, or you can simply prune it back to create or maintain a specific shape. Early spring to mid summer are the best times to prune smoke bushes. Best wishes with your landscape!
