Can you please tell me how to care for a tree probably 50 years old? thank you.

A mature grapefruit tree likely has an extensive root system and is getting all the nutrition and moisture it needs from nearby plants and ground water. There's not much you need to do in terms of maintenance. Pruning if necessary, but keep it minimal so as not to upset the balance of limbs and branches to root system. Watch for insect and disease problems and just enjoy your tree!
